Narcissistic abuse is an insidious ("proceeding in a gradual, subtle way, but with very harmful effects") form of emotional, physical, sexual and psychological abuse. This is detrimental to an individual's mental health simply due to the fact that no-one besides the victim usually knows what is happening behind closed doors.
Narcissism is a term that has been brought to many people's attention and can be used to categorize someone incorrectly. Narcissistic abuse is not simply someone who cheats on you or who hurts your feelings within a relationship.
Narcissistic abuse runs much deeper than that. This abuse is insidious to the point where the victims of such abuse lose a sense of fact over fiction, they carry the heavy burden of feeling worthless and are constantly walking on eggshells, sacrificing usually everything to maintain the sense of peace within their relationships or homes.
Major depression, anxiety as well as extreme suicidal ideation form part of the abuse that leads to the inability to maintain who you once were. Narcissistic type persons require that you sacrifice who you are and what you believe in, in order to suit them. This leads to a form of idol worship which God forbids. This happens unbeknownst to the victim due to the manipulation and lies fueling the narcissists plans of wanting constant adoration, compliance, unrealistic and unfair expectations as well as servitude.
